It’s hard to believe that the end of the year is near. The last 12 months have been filled with plenty of exciting experiences, rewarding runs, races, and an amazing community to surround us through it all. As we reflect on all that this year has held, Santa Barbara Running Co. is grateful for the opportunity we’ve had to spend it with you.
We thought we’d share our favorite highlights from 2022, made possible by the incredible Santa Barbara athletic community.
Monica DeVreese Tackled Western States 100
Beginning in Olympic Valley and weaving through the Sierras, Western States is the trail run of any racer’s dreams. Its historical course is the world’s oldest 100-mile trail race, climbing over 18,000 feet and descending nearly 23,000. The trail’s test of endurance attracts accomplished runners from around the world.
SB Running Co. owner Monica DeVreese ran and completed the event last summer after waiting six years to participate! Determined not to let a Covid setback or foot issue hold her back, she trained and ran the Western States 100 – and left it all out on the course. Monica remains grateful to all of the WSER directors and volunteers who made the race possible and for the sense of connection she felt running alongside other women. We’re inspired by her passion for the ultra community and the motivation and ambition she spreads amongst our community.

Goal-Driven Community
The support we’ve seen from our community is remarkable, and it brings us joy to witness runners achieve their goals. From weekend warriors to long-distance travelers, we’ve seen athletes push their limits and give their all. The positive energy of the driven folks whose stories we get to be a part of keeps us motivated and grateful – whether it’s families gathering to run or new clients picking out their first pair of shoes.
In 2023, we’re stepping into the 20th year anniversary of our store – our entire team is excited and eager for what the future holds. Thank you for being part of the Santa Barbara Running Co. family in 2022. We look forward to helping you on your journey and completing your goals in 2023!
